It should be added that the film will not only be a transmission of historical stories.

The structural form of the film allows us to focus on the most important moments in Mother's life - powerlessness and, on contrary, moments of courageous personal decisions during a difficult time in history making this historical story relevant at the present time.

On the other hand, episodes of the first part of the film, the Mother's part, include bright emotional ranges Mother is experiencing. Living in this adult world, Daughter has to grow up fast and take care of the depressed Mother, who in turn has pushed her away from the very moment of her birth. Secrets and revelations gradually break in the consciousness of Daughter making her realize that the world in which she lives is completely wrong.

Observing the world with emotions and directness true to any child, the character of Daughter (Laura) is the one who is going to uncover the absurdity behind the mystery of historical periods and their influence on the fate of Mother (Astra) and others. It specifically focuses on the mother-daughter dynamic which brings into relief the way that their relationship is compromised and perhaps in danger of being destroyed by the social status quo.ĭifferent point of view - MOTHER'S and DAUGHTER'S - will make it possible to see the absurd Soviet system and fates of people through a prism of an adult who has lost her ideals while also through child's eyes, from the perspective of a child. This story in film, divided into two sections – MOTHER and DAUGHTER – is both an historic story and a piece of contemporary polemic which pinpoints the position of women during Soviet occupation in Latvia and the impact on them. Through this film we will allow the viewer to look into the twists of life in the difficult Soviet world to discover the impossibility of life and choice as an individual and search for opportunities. This is a short definition of the historical background of “Soviet Milk”, which in my opinion is also relevant in today's troubled world. This regime deprived a lot of people of their faith and integrity, also their lives, but for many it completely ruined life and goals. In fairly recent history of many European countries, the end of World War II meant that people had to live in the USSR occupation regime.
